Promising Practices

The OMLA attempts to keep up with our state's middle schools' promising practices so that they can be shared among us all.

The OMLA is currently working with the Oregon Schools to Watch program (state affiliate of the National Schools to Watch program) to provide you with information about schools excelling in any part of the demanding rubrik which that organization uses to identify successful middle schools. We hope that information is available before the 2010-11 school year. One school has been identified as a School to Watch. Contact Corbett Middle School for information on their innovative and successful program.

We can also direct you to three middle schools identified by the Oregon Department of Education's "Celebrating Student Success" program which recognizes schools having great success closing the achievement gap. Three middle schools are Champion Schools under that program. They are Fern Ridge Middle School (which serves the rural communities of Elmira and Veneta as well as parts of Junction City and Eugene), Fleming Middle School (which serves students from rural Josephine County), and Lane Middle School (which serves students from Southeast Portland).
